HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Monroe County Meals on Wheels is wrapping up its community champions week.

Special guests helped deliver meals all week long for the cause.

Friday, Congressman Mackenzie, Pocono Township Commissioner Winot, and Northeast Site Contractors took part.

The special week commemorates the historic day in March of 1972 when the Older American Act was amended to include a nutrition program for Americans 60 years and older.

During this week, "Meals on Wheels" tries to raise awareness and help showcase their important role in the community.

"I encourage everybody to get out and help and support and especially in times like this with taxes going up. It's important to get involved locally, especially with the people that are affected most by the higher cost-of-living," stated Brian Winot, President, Northeast Site Contractors and Pocono Twp. Commissioner.

"Right now we're going out with a local volunteer couple that comes out and helps meals on wheels on a regular basis and we're so grateful for the work that they do and we're gonna join them on their route, drop off some meals to the seniors who are in need," said Ryan Mackenzie, Congressman, 7th District.

Meals on wheels provides millions of seniors with essential services that help them remain healthier and independent at home.
