Man convicted on 'straw purchasing' charges

BRODHEADSVILLE, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Stroudsburg man was convicted of three counts of making false statements in connection with the purchase of six firearms.

According to United States Attorney Gerard M. Karam, Delvin Hutchinson, 33, purchased six firearms in three separate transactions within 19 days at Dunkelberger's Sports Outfitter of Brodheadsville. When investigators from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives later interviewed Hutchinson, he was no longer in possession in any of the firearms.

Hutchinson claimed the firearms were stolen, but testimony presented that they were "straw purchased" for one or more individuals.

According to the release, Hutchinson completed federal forms falsely stating that the firearms were for himself.

The maximum penalty under federal law for each of the offenses is ten years’
imprisonment, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine.
