Man allegedly crashes stolen car while driving drunk

TANNERSVILLE, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) ā€” A man is facing charges after police say he crashed a stolen car while driving drunk.

According to the Pocono Township Police Department, on August 11 around 9:00 p.m., officers were called for a crash in the parking lot of Barley Creek Brewing Company in Tannersville.

Through further investigation, officers said a man, later identified as Alexander Amaral, 29, Massachusetts exited the business, drove a Chevrolet pickup into a parked car, and fled the scene.

Police say they located Amaral at Sunoco in Tannersville, passed out in the driver's seat with the vehicle still running. Investigators later learned the truck Amaral was driving was reported stolen out of Springfield, Connecticut.

Amaral was placed under arrest on the charges of driving under the influence, possession of a stolen vehicle, leaving the scene of an accident, and other offenses.

He was transported to the Monroe County DUI Center and then placed in the Monroe County Correctional Facility after being denied bail.
