STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — In downtown Stroudsburg, the sidewalks are bare with a chill in the air. Inside Main Street Makery, however, heat from owner Lisa Diemer's oven warms up the shop.
“It’s cold, it’s damp, and people just don’t want to stroll the streets of Stroudsburg. So we offer classes that are prescheduled, so they have a destination to come into a nice warm kitchen.”
Offering up all types of classes; such as how to decorate cakes, making spritz butter cookies or fresh bread Diemer keeps up with the times.
“Right now it’s very trendy to do sourdough starter, but it doesn’t fit into a lot of peoples lives because it literally is like taking care of a pet.”
“If you take a nice simple Italian bread or a white bread loaf you can put that from start to finish in an hour and half.”
The shop doesn’t just make delicious snacks for us, but also for wildlife like this egg here decorated with birdseed.
She says thanks to social media and the internet, it’s never been an easier time to cook and bake at home.. Recreating memories made around food.
“When you’re a little kid, certain smells, when your mom was baking a cake, or a special soup or whatever, and that carries throughout your whole adult life. It will always be comforting to you.”
Sharing her love for cooking and experience in the kitchen. She hopes people pick up the hobby, especially in the colder months.
“There’s nothing as more comforting as a home filled with fresh, baked goods.”
You can try out some of the activities at Main Street Makery in a couple of weeks at downtown Stroudsburg’s Winterfest on February 15th.
