WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Sunday's cold weather didn't stop volunteers from helping homeless veterans.

Valor Clinic Foundation held a "stand down" in Wilkes-Barre, providing veterans in need with food, clothing, and other winter essentials.

The organization regularly hosts these outreach efforts across northeastern Pennsylvania and beyond.

28/22 News spoke with one woman who looks forward to Valor's visits, especially this time of year.

"Looking for a pair of thermals, looking for thermals. It's cold," said Wilkes-Barre resident Chere McMillan.

"We do whatever is necessary to help them out. We don't want veterans out there, be subject to the elements, and get frostbite. So we do whatever we can to help them and whatever they need," said Veteran Outreach Coordinator Mike Meining.

Valor Clinic Foundation helps veterans obtain housing, healthcare, and other important services.

The organization can also provide transitional housing for up to 13 veterans at a time at Paul's House in Monroe County.
