Get lost in ‘Mazezilla’ for fall season

SAYLORSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The first official day of fall is Sunday, but many area farms have already kicked off their fall festivities.

One family-owned farm in Monroe County shows how you can get lost in the fun at one of Pennsylvania's largest corn mazes.

Towering at more than seven feet tall across 11 acres on Klingel’s Farm in Saylorsburg, its corn maze named ‘Mazezilla’ - is a telltale sign that the fall season is here.

“The theme this year is ‘around the world’!” said Nathan Pysher, co-owner, Klinger's Farm.

Pysher walked 28/22 News through the maze, explaining the fun design of the cornfield does not happen overnight.

“Do multiple different sketches or draws of it, what we want in it, change it. Sometimes we start out with one completely and end with something totally different,” said Pysher.

When entering the maze you get a punch card, or for this year’s theme a passport, so you can mark your travels all around the world.

There are 12 stops in the maze, such as Australia, where once you get to the stop, you then punch your passport.

The twists and turns can get quite 'corn-fusing'. That’s why the farm has a tower in the middle with workers offering directions if needed.

“There is a beginning, there is an end. Some people spend 20 minutes, some people spend four hours. Depends on your sense of direction,” said Pysher.

The local farm is stacked with family fun such as a petting zoo, games, and of course, picking pumpkins.

Celebrating its opening for the season this past weekend, Pysher tells 28/22 News the warmer weather fortunately has not impacted the farm, thanks to irrigation.

“All the crops are doing fairly well. It was dry early on and we had to irrigate, and then we got lots of rain later on, so Mother Nature wasn’t cooperating completely, but everything is looking great,” said Pysher.

Mazezilla is open every weekend through the first Sunday of November.

Klinger’s Farm is hosting its ‘Olsen Christmas Wish Night’ on Friday, September 20, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., where all proceeds from Mazezilla will be donated to the non-profit that provides gifts to local families in need for the holidays.
