Fire breaks out at East Stroudsburg University

SMITHFIELD TOWNSHIP, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A fire broke out at a college campus facility in Monroe County Tuesday afternoon.

The East Stroudsburg Fire Department Chief tells 28/22 News the call came in just before 1:00 p.m. for black smoke coming out of the roof of East Stroudsburg University's Innovation Center along Independence Road.

He believes the fire started in an air handler in the HVAC system on the roof.

There were no injuries, but he says the building has smoke and water damage.

In addition to being used by ESU students, it's also home to the state's tick research lab.
