East Stroudsburg University students, faculty, and staff will join Safe Monroe at the annual Take Back the Night march and rally on Thursday, April 11. Take Back the Night is designed to raise awareness about sexual and domestic violence, support survivors, and empower men and women to feel safe at night, while also advocating for bystander intervention. Since the 1970s, thousands of colleges, domestic violence shelters, and rape crisis centers have held Take Back the Night events all over the country, focusing on eliminating sexual and domestic violence in all forms. April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

Participants are asked to meet at 5p.m. at the Monroe County Courthouse, 610 Monroe Street, Stroudsburg, where they will be welcomed by the director of Safe Monroe. The walk will begin there, and proceed to ESU where it will end at Stroud Hall (number 9 on the campus map) with a moment of silence followed by a rally. The rally will feature speakers from ESU faculty, staff and students as well as community members.

The Take Back the Night march and rally is open to the public at no cost. For more information about this event, please contact Dr. Brittany Powers, director of health and wellness by emailing bpowers5@esu.edu
