East Stroudsburg University’s Madelon Powers Gallery will host a special Martin Luther King, Jr. gallery exhibition featuring the artwork submitted for the Julianna V. Bolt Art Contest. The exhibition will be open from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. on Monday, January 15, 2024. The contest, held each year in conjunction with ESU’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Breakfast, gives local high school students an opportunity to share artwork that reflects their interpretation of the theme of the program. This year’s theme is “Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that.”
The exhibition will feature the work of this year’s 56 contest participants representing East Stroudsburg North High School, East Stroudsburg South High School, Pleasant Valley High School, Pocono Mountain East High School, and Stroudsburg High School.
While the winners of the contest will be recognized during the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Breakfast on January 15 at 8 a.m. at Terraview at Stroudsmoor Country Inn, all 56 pieces of art submitted to the contest will be on display in the Madelon Powers Gallery during the exhibit. The gallery is located in ESU’s Fine and Performing Arts Center, Normal and Marguerite Streets, East Stroudsburg, Pa. The gallery exhibit is open to the public at no cost.
