EAST STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — East Stroudsburg University (ESU) hosted its 16th annual Veterans Day celebration on Monday afternoon.
The event recognized local veterans in all branches of the armed services.
The ceremony started in Beers Lecture Hall with keynote speaker Lieutenant Colonel Michael Gielbeda, Commander of 111th Operations Support Squadron which deals with cyberspace and information operations.
Gielbeda spoke of the importance of caring for our veterans and for them to tell their stories.
LCCC held Annual Veterans Day Program to honor those who served"The year 2020 only 7% of the US population are veterans. I think a lot of people don't relate, they don't understand. They probably don't even have family members that are in, so it's important for veterans to get out there and speak about their experiences and for the civilian community to learn and know that these people have sacrificed everything for them and provided freedom for their everyday lives," Lieutenant Colonel Gielbeda explained.
Afterward, the event participants made a procession to the World War I memorial, and ESU President Kenneth Long and Lieutenant Colonel Gielbeda laid a wreath at the Julia Statue.
