road closure

Golden Slipper Road is set to close next week for nearly two months.

Bright orange detour signs are posted, giving drivers a heads up a closure is coming to Golden Slipper Road in Pocono Township.

People who live in the Barton Glen community that is connected to Golden Slipper Road are bracing for a long two months of construction.

"There's a lot of traffic that goes up Golden Slipper Road, so it's going to affect a lot of people," said Allison Quinn.

"There are 350 homes in the development, and it's their lifeline," said resident Craig Wortman.

Penndot officials say Golden Slipper Road, which just off of Route 611, will close in both directions. Contractors need to replace a water line and widen part of the road near where Lehigh Valley Health Network is building its latest community hospital.

"It's already traffic and chaos, to begin with, but now that the hospital is going to be there, that is fine. It's a good thing, but with all of the extra construction and stuff like that is going to make it more of a mess," said Tyler Skibber of Bartonsville.

The detour will use Route 611, Route 715, Warner Road, and Neola Road to get around construction.

PennDOT officials say Golden Slipper Road will close on Monday, June 16. Work is expected to take 8 to 10 weeks.
