Community Unites to Keep TLC Park Basketball Courts in Tannersville Open

Submitted by staff on
TLC Park Petition

As a resident deeply rooted in the Pocono  community, I find the recent proposal to shut down the TLC Park basketball courts not only unfair, but detrimental to our town. This move comes in response to a singular, unfortunate incident of violence that happened last week. I believe punishing the entire community for the actions of one individual is a direct attack on the spirit of our community. More than just a place to play games, these courts serve as a safe space for our youth, fostering friendships, developing talents, and keeping them occupied in a positive, healthy environment.

The National Academy of Sciences asserts that having access to neighborhood parks and recreational facilities has been linked to lower crime rates and improved physical health among adults and children (Bowen et al., 2013). Closing the Basketball Court would therefore not only take away a beloved community space, but could significantly impact the health and safety of our residents. In a township like ours where community engagement is vital, we cannot afford to lose such crucial public spaces.

In place of shutting down,I propose let's develop a community-led effort to ensure the safety of our kids and respect of our parks . We can work together to solve any existing issues without depriving everyone of a valuable resource such as the “Basketball Courts” . Stand with us in asking the Board of Commissioners to rethink there options . Your signature can help us keep the TLC park basketball courts open for everyone in Tannersville. Help preserve the quality of life in our community.
