Stroudsburg Varsity Chess team lost its’ opening match against Pocono Mountain West 5-2, in a game that the team had high spirits going into.

Stroudsburg, using their “top seven” players, crumbles with only Board 2 Duncan Ruschman, ’26 and Megan Lisnik, ’26, pulling out wins in their matches.

The Mountaineers did get blown out, however, the team still has high hopes for future match ups.

Stroudsburg has one week to prepare for its next match against Pleasant Valley on November 19. It looks to bounce back against a team that lost 7-0 to Pocono Mountain East. The match will be played at 3:00 p.m. in the High School library.
