Boys’ Basketball disappoints in home opener

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

Last night, Stroudsburg lost their home opener to Pocono Mountain East. The final score was, 73-42, on a night where the Mountaineers were not able to get anything to go right for them.

Early in the first quarter, Stroudsburg was neck and neck with East, with Alex Pacitti, ‘25, knocking down two three-pointers to give Stroudsburg one-point deficit. This would be the closest the game would be at any point as East ended the quarter on a 5-0 run.

The two teams battled into the end of the first half as Stroudsburg went into the locker trailing by eight.

East then started to pull away in the third quarter outscoring Stroudsburg 25-9.

Center Parker Scoz, ’25, dominated Stroudsburg all night. The 6’6″, 17-year-old had his way with the Mountaineers scoring 25 points. Scoz added salt to the wound, knocking down two fourth quarter threes. Stroudsburg was outmatched by his size in the paint all night long.

Stroudsburg was unable to begin any type of comeback as they lost 73-42. They now fall to 0-3 on the season. This year is expected to be a “rebuilding” year for the Mountaineers with only four seniors on the varsity roster. This is a complete 180 from last season with 12 seniors on the roster.

The Mountaineers were also dominated off the court with the energy in the building as at times it sounded more like an East home game than a Stroudsburg home game.

Pacitti led all Stroudsburg players in scoring, putting 11 points up on the board. 8 of his 11 points came in the first quarter for the Mountaineers. Guard Jarel Jackson, ’27, added nine points.

Stroudsburg’s next matchup is on Thursday as they take on East Stroudsburg South. South comes into the battle 0-2 on the season.
