'Bedbound man' dies in fire, investigation underway

POCONO TWP., MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — An investigation is underway after neighbors' attempt to rescue a man failed during a house fire early Wednesday.

According to the Monroe County Coroner Thomas Yanac, a house fire occurred in Pocono Township around 12:23 a.m. on Archer Lane.

According to Assistant Chief Corey Sayre, a bed-bound man, 79-year-old James Archer was inside the home, and neighbors tried to rescue him but the fire was too much and they couldn't enter.

The coroner reports Archer was pronounced dead on the scene and was the only victim. The cause and manner of death are pending.

Pocono Township Police Department and Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshals are conducting an investigation.
