On March 21, 2025 at approximately 1:30 AM, an Officer of the Pocono Township Police Department observed a vehicle code violation while on patrol in a marked police unit. The Officer ran a check of the registration, which showed that the vehicle owner had an outstanding arrest warrant out of Union County New Jersey for fleeing and eluding Police. A traffic stop was initiated, at which time, the operator of the vehicle, later identified to be, Mohamed Abdelaal, a 23-year-old male from Iselin, New Jersey, failed to yield, leading Officers on a 26 mile long high speed vehicle pursuit. Officers pursued Abdelaal until he stopped his vehicle at the entrance to Pocono Country Place and fled from police on foot into a heavily wooded area. Despite the efforts of a drone, and Police K-9 tracking, Abdelaal was not immediately apprehended. Officers located a heavy blood trail where Abdelaal was last seen prior to entering the wooded area and knew that he would need medical attention. The local hospitals were notified of the incident and given direction to contact this department if Abdelaal arrived at the emergency room. At approximately 10:30 AM, Abdelaal arrived at the hospital and was quickly apprehended after receiving medical treatment. A search warrant was conducted on Abdelaal's vehicle, which led to the seizure of narcotics and a stolen New Jersey vehicle registration plate. Abdelaal was transported to the Monroe County Correctional Facility to await arraignment.
