DELAWARE WATER GAP, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— A 19th-century inn in the Poconos is in ruins this weekend after a devastating fire.
Flames broke out late this morning at the old Glenwood inn located in Delaware Water Gap.
The owners are devastated to see half of their hotel gone and tonight they do not know where to turn for help.
A large section of Glenwood Inn and Conference Center on Main Street in Delaware Water Gap is now in shambles.
"My heart is broken and my wife was crying all day," said owner of the Glenwood Inn and Conference Center, Chang Gong.
The hotel is a total loss after flames swept through the site.
Gong says the inn was brimming with business until the pandemic hit a few years ago.
"We were here working so hard, and then all of a sudden it happened like this," stated Gong.
Delaware Water Gap Fire Department was the leading fire crew on scene.
With the help of others, they snuffed out the flames in about an hour.
Borough Fire Chief Michael Smith says the fire began in the back of the building where the pool was located.
Half of the resort needed to be demolished and inside that section was the pool, spa, and Gong's office.
"Well, for that building only it cost about a million bucks," commented Gong.
Thousands of gallons of water were supplied to help fight the fire.
Smith says one of the department's 27 ton fire engines caved into the ground because of the weight of the water it held and the thin pavement it sat on.
The inn was unoccupied at the time of the fire and no one was hurt. Gong is left wondering how to start rebuilding after the devastating loss.
"It's kind of impossible for me to standup. How to recover, I don't know," expressed Gong.
Gong tells 28/22 News he did not have insurance and is now in search of help.
