Each year at the end of August, professional tennis players enter into the US Open. The US Open has been played since 1881 and lasts for two weeks.

On Sunday, September 10, 2023, Novak Djokovic Serbian tennis player who is ranked No. 1 won his fourth US Open tennis title, and his 24th grand slam. A grand slam is winning all four championships in one calendar year. The championships are the Australian Open, the French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open. This is one of the biggest achievements in sports history. No one else in the world has ever won their 24th grand slam until now.

Lana Marsh, 11, Stroudsburg’s #1 singles player said, “I wanted Djokovic to win because I think he’s a smart player and has won a lot of titles for himself and has worked very hard to earn them.”

The game scores between Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev were 6-3, 7-6, 6-3.

The second set of the game was definitely the most interesting set of the game– Djokovic went into a tiebreaker with Medvedev. Overall, each of the points was amazingly constructed. Both of these players are aggressive yet well-balanced.

When keeping score, tennis goes points, set, match. At the end of every match of the championships, you will hear the chair umpire say game, set, match. In a game, the scoring is 15, 30, 40 games. When done playing that game, it equals one overall point. The first to 6 wins the set. Then you must win two sets to win the match.

Djokovic starts the game off strong with two aces, one at 30-30 and another at 40-30. In the second game, Djokovic is ahead 30-0 and pulls a down-the-line winner and ends up winning the second game. However, Medvedev started to make a comeback and started hitting some amazing shots, forcing Djokovic to make errors.

Ultimately, the game ended in Djokovic’s favor. During his speech, Djokovic said, “To make the history of this sport is just something truly remarkable and special.”
