How long have you been teaching at SASD?
I started as a day-to-day sub in 2014 but have been in this position for seven years.
What is your favorite part about teaching?
Trying new things on a daily basis.
If you could teach another subject, what would it be and why?
Something in the sciences. I enjoy nature and am fascinated by how the human body adapts to exercise.
What would it be if you had gone into another profession, and why?
I would enjoy working with animals, maybe being a zoo keeper. The other job would be something related to birdwatching.
What is one piece of advice you would share with your students?
Don’t take yourself too seriously.
If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?
Be able to eat as much food as possible without any negative repercussions.
How and when did you know teaching was what you wanted to do?
I enjoyed physical education in high school, and that’s when I felt compelled to go into the field.
What is a joke you always keep in your pocket?
Two muffins were sitting in an oven. One turned to the other and said, “Hey, it’s pretty hot in here, isn’t it?” the other turned and shouted, “Oh my wow, a talking muffin!”
Who do you look up to?
I look up to my father.
What will your life look like after you retire?
That’s still a long way from now. But I hope to have extra time to watch birds and travel the world.
What is your favorite memory of teaching?
Being able to use equipment for the first time since the pandemic started.
What is something that most people may not know about you?
I enjoy watching different types of anime, such as Naruto and Bleach, and I’m finishing up Attack on Titan.
What is a hidden talent of yours?
I can find the most ridiculous-looking socks to wear.
What is your proudest achievement?
In 2016, the girls cross country team won districts and qualified for states.
What is one thing you wish people knew about teaching/teachers in general?
We want what’s best for the students. We are not out to get anyone.
What makes you smile?
Birdwatching, the Giants winning, my cross country athletes or team performing well, and tons of other stuff.
When you retire one day, what will you miss most about teaching?
Learning the new slang words used by students.
What is something your students have taught you?
Always expect the unexpected
